Lash Extensions Aftercare
Aftercare is so important for the longevity of your lash extensions. Not following your aftercare can lead to bad retention, damaged or broken lashes. Below is not only the what but the why to good aftercare practices.
AVOID GETTING YOUR LASHES WET FOR 24 HOURS
Getting your lashes wet is a bit controversial but to be safe and avoid premature fallout avoid getting your lashes wet for 24 hours.
AVOID SAUNAS, STEAM AND SWEAT FOR 24 HOURS
On the same theme as keeping them dry avoid everything that has moisture including gym workouts and swimming.
DO NOT USE OIL BASED EYE PRODUCTS
Lash glue and oil aren’t the best of friends. Oil can weaken the lash glue and cause bad retention.
CLEANSE YOUR LASHES DAILY
This is the most important aftercare step if you are going to have lash extensions. Lash cleansers are designed for extensions, they’re not an upsell they’re a non negotiable. Because we don’t touch the skin with lash extensions there is a small gap between the base of the lash and the eyelid, this can clog up with oils, make up, sweat and more becoming a breeding ground for bacteria. Not cleansing your lashes can cause blepharitis.
AVOID SLEEPING ON YOUR FACE
To avoid your lashes bending or falling out try and sleep on your back, I know this is easier said than done and sometimes its not easy but if you can’t you can always swap to a silk pillowcase to help.
BE GENTLE WITH YOUR LASHES
Avoid scrubbing makeup off and rubbing your eyes as much as you can. Try and avoid playing with or touching them. Be gentle and brush them daily.
DO NOT USE MASCARA
Please do not use any mascara with lash extensions. Not only will it close your fans and clump your extensions it can damage your natural lashes. It is nearly impossible to remove from the extensions and if your lash health is compromised then you will either have to drop extension length or have a break until your lashes are healthy again.
DO NOT USE A LASH CURLER
Lash extensions are not designed to be used with a lash curler, the pressure and tension it puts on the lash extension can cause damage to your natural lashes and/or compromise your lash extensions and their retention.
